Green House Effect Challenge

Here comes another 6 month challenge for us all who want get rid of our dry, frizzy and unhealthy looking hair!! Come aboard for soft, silky, smooth, and gorgeous looking hair in just 6 months!!

You can use a shower cap or a plastic bag. Even a cling wrap works!!
This one is really dear to my heart, and I believe it will help a lot of us, especially those battling dry, frizzy and damaged hair with managing and keeping our new growth soft and tamed especially when it comes to stretching our relaxers. This one is also very easy as it can be incorporated into all the other challenges so far. GHE can be done with all natural oils. Castor Oil will be the preferred oil then for those on the Castor Oil Challenge. Easy does it!! And a lot of long haired black ladies who grew more than 6-12 inches of hair every year had GHE as part of their regimen. Oh yeah, we’re on our way to 12 inches a year!!

The greenhouse effect (GHE) involves putting oil on damp or dry hair, covering it with a shower cap (or plastic bag) and keeping it in place with a scarf and then a towel or winter hat (you can heat these up in the microwave or hot water for added heat) to keep the head warm and thus having a prolonged, deep, hot oil treatment. It can be done for between 30 minutes to overnight!! A little oil goes a long way, thus there may be no need to wash hair in the morning.

The result is not only highly moisturised hair but reduced itchy scalp, improved scalp health and accelerated hair growth as well. This technique is sure to give you ½ inch to 1 inch of new growth every month!! Imagine...that’s between 6 inches to 12 inches of growth a year. This can be done on natural or relaxed hair.
Get that silky straight and frizz free hair!

Begins: 1st February, 2013                       Ends: 1st August, 2013

Basic Level:  GHE overnight two times a week.
Intermediate: GHE overnight four times a week.
Advanced: GHE overnight every day.
Remember to take comparison photos every month.

You bet I’m gonna do this at the advanced level........YES, I already started GHEing every day for a week now.......(hehheehhehe ... Im one week ahead...lol) !! And it leaves my roots soooooooooooooooooo soft and silky in the morning!! I just spray on my braid spray, apply T444Z to my edges, massage for 5-10mins and I’m gone since most of the morning routine is now done the night before!! Can’t wait to see my results in a few weeks when I undo my braids!

Cheers,

Star.

    2. The itch may be the castor oil. That makes my scalp itchy although it does help with hair growth :)

  10. Hello everyone! I am soo happy that I found this site! All of the other sites that I see on this method have not been updated recently. I just started using this method on the 17th of April. I plan to do the advanced level. About 2 weeks ago I got a touch-up and trim. My starting length is armpit level in the back with long bangs in the front. Let's do this ladies!!!

  11. Can you use castor oil on relaxed hair? My hair is damaged and I have breakage in the back of my head and the front. My hair is the length of the bottom of my neck ;/ I'm aiming for waist length hair and knowing how to maintain that length.Right now I'm using Design Essentials hair products.

    1. oh yes...........you can use it on relaxed, texlaxed or natural hair ...to thicken hair, massage into the scalp but to use in other ways such as sealing, baggying and deep conditioning, it is best to mix with a lighter oil.

  12. Hey Stella! Count me in...

I just recently put together a good hair regimen after not taking care of my hair for so long. ( I know, shame on me).

    I'm using:
    Castor Oil
Creme of Nature Morrocan Oil (Sulfate Free) Shampoo
Aussie Moist Conditioner (BIG emphasis on conditioner. I hear the shampoo is terrible).

My hair is currently half an inch past my collar bones (over 12 months without a perm) and my goal is waist length. I just google GHE and I'm glad I bought those shower caps in bulk. Bagged my hair immediately and can't wait to start my journey...

  16. I want in on the next challenge. I made my own potion and I'm watching my hair to see if it works. I have been using my potion and the ghe/baggying for 1wk now. I have noticed the increased moisture and less breakage, but no growth. Well, really, I have not measured my hair anyway. Please let me know when will it be.

  19. I've started doing the ghe thisb month but doing more this week the intermediate stage . How long will it take for me to see results and I'm taking hairfinty. So will I get 2 inches in a month then since I'm doing both?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Welcome to the great club....haven't tried Hairfinity yet (on my wishlist though)....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, 2 inches in a month? An inch has been claimed by many...but 2, not yet heard or read. You could be the first!!

  20. I'm taking hairfinty and doing the ghe everyday willmy hair grow 2 inches in a mmonth then? Since they both have your hair grown an inch a month.?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I have not tried hairfinity yet because it is not available in Ghana, but heard it works really well. Growing 2 inches in a month is .......won't say impossible though. Give it a try...take starting pixs and let's know how much growth you had each month for 3 consecutive months.

  22. Last night was my first night doing GHE. Can I do this during the day under my wigs? Do you know if anyone has ever tried 24hr GHE and what were the results?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, sure...you can do it under your wigs...I do.....if you do it only 24 hours once in a while, cool. But not consecutively for 24 hours for days else you may get moisture overload.

  23. Howbout today is September 21st and I am just finding this site? Are there any other sistas out there ready to jump onboard with me? Six months is six months, no matter when we start. Let's do the thing!!!

  24. Id love to do this challenge but because I wear a cornrow braid out, it would make my hair frizzy and not defined. i can only do it on Friday night so I can keep my hair covered over the weekend. Does that count at all? I currently do the GHE, then LOC in the morning following with the Q-redew and then eco styler olive oil and then style

  25. Hello! I would like some clarification on the Green House Effect. This method would not cause fungus or some sort of scalp infection because of all the dampness and heat in the hair, right? Because I've been doing this method for a while now but when I was searching through other websites I was a comment about it and it sort of freaked me out. Does anyone have any comments on this or some type of reassurance that this won't happen when doing the Greenhouse Effect on your hair?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hhaahahhaha.............yes, fungus is more likely to form in hair that is hot and dirty. But note that even when done overnight, the hair dries in the day. I didn't experience any such problems probably because I wash my hair 2-3 times a week. Give it a try at the beginners level and see how it goes.

  31. I went natural in April 2013. I had a good length and decided to color my hair. First time no problem, but I wasn't happy with the color. Did it again 6 weeks later, liked the color but it was too soon and my hair started to break. Then my doctor changed my medication which caused a little breakage. Now I am back on track will be using ghe to stimulate growth. I will keep you posted.

  32. Hello , my name is Jabrehia . Sometime in November of 2013 I started to do the GHE(green house effect). I used the plastic bag and the scarf for one night. I did not like how damp my hair was the next morning and I just got a relaxer so I put the GHE completely behind me . Now it is December and I'm ready to get back up with a hair growth routine. This method continues to show up and some say they use the scarf±bag±scarf. Back in November I only placed the bag and then the scarf . Would this still leave my hair damp if I do scarf±bag±scarft or will it still work ?

  33. Hello my name Mayda.one month I started the ghe but to increase my hair growth onion juice mixed with garlic and parsley and conditioner, massage my hair with this after I put my plastic cap, I cover with my scarf , and leave it overnight, the next day I rinse my hair, but I do not use shampoo, conditioner only, really accelerated my growth hair .try it and you will see them as hair grows extremely fast.

  35. I have relaxed hair and it's cut into a tapered pixie cut but I want to grow it out using this method but it makes my hair wet and I can't retain any curled style ( with a hair straightener). Normally I curl my hair once a week on a Sunday and it keeps the style till school is finished on a Friday. Any suggestions?

    1. I think yu are right everyday can become a bit too much especially if your hair will sweat overnight. I think its best to adapt with what your hair needs . If dry then to go ahead with the ghe as required
