Hair Musings!!

It's been like forever since I wrote anything. Ooooh...how I wish we had better internet services!! Blogging is not fun when it takes forever to upload pixs to a post. That's my BIG challenge now so just to let you know I have great posts coming right up as soon as my internet is fixed.

I've got Bad News and Good News!!

The Bad: I've been struggling with shedding and breakage these past 3 weeks since my relaxer. I find that I always have shed and broken hairs in my comb lately. It's been 5 months since my baby arrived. It's quite disturbing but I guess I can blame it on post-partum shedding and over-manipulation.  My hair has been too free lately....and I let my ends hang sometimes when I'm wearing a ponytail instead of tucking it under with hair pins.....just a few times ( a girl gotta show off a little) but I guess just a few times is bad for my hair. I had wanted to get braids but then I thought if my hair needed to shed, it will shed anyway. However, it doesn't come out in huge clamps so I must say my tea rinses and coconut onion oil may be helping a whole lot. It could be worse.....right?

The Good: I have stated a few times that my hair doesn't grow out quickly after a relaxer...sometimes takes up to a month to feel any new growth at all. But surprisingly, at just 2 weeks, I felt new growth! Thick, strong new growth!! And at almost 4 weeks, I see 1/3 inch already. That makes me very happy because in the past, I waited like forever before I saw or felt new growth.

Now what has changed in my regimen lately:

1. I mixed my T444Z with black castor oil....I know I shouldn't but it was getting finished; and since my order hasn't arrived, I just thought to mix it up to have a little more.....just a little more. And I absolutely love it.......!! Just discussing it with a few hair friends as well, I found that they mix it with black castor oil too when it's getting finished..............and it works. Going against the product usage directions...............hmmmmmmmm!!

2. I massaged my scalp with coconut oil and tipped my head over for 4 consecutive days after my relaxer. Yes...I was trying the inversion method but failed at completing the full week. I had second thoughts because after the full 4 minutes, I felt a little light headed each time. Maybe I could have got the full inch if I had done it to the end................hmmmmmmmmmmmm!!

Everything else was pretty much the same as far as my wash day regimen is concerned. Only BIG change is that I have shampooed every week instead of once a month as using the coconut onion oil in my hair cannot let me go scot free without shampooing. And indeed, it stinks real bad now as it's been almost a month since the ingredients were infused in the oil.

Time to prepare another concoction.......................whoop whoop!!

How long does it take to feel new growth after a relaxer?

Star.

I'm Such A Henna Head!!

So I had another weekend full of "all things I do hair". And I didn't regret it at all.

1. Prepooed with my coconut oil concoction.

onion for hair growthhenna on relaxed hair

2. Shampooed with Creme of Nature Detangling Shampoo.

3. Applied my overnight henna paste thickly from root to tip after soaking up water with an old T-shirt.

4. Covered with a plastic bag, left it in overnight. Made sure I covered my pillow with an old towel.

5. Rinsed out completely......did so under a tap because it takes time to get all the henna almost out.

6. Deep conditioned with ORS Replenishing Conditioner. Sat under the dryer for 10 minutes.

7. Rinsed out, applied Hawaiian Silky Leave-in, IC Hair Polisher and Black Castor Oil.

8. Trimmed off an inch more, rollerset and sat under the dryer for 30 minutes.

9. Applied T444Z Hair Food on scalp, Hawaiian Silky 14-in-1 Miracle Worker to hair sealed with Black Castor Oil.

10. Tucked the ends into a bob after enjoying my hair for under 30 minutes. Style for the week.

Do you know how to rollerset your own hair?

Cheers,
Star.

Finally: ALL MY PRODUCTS

Pheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew!! FINALLY!!

After weeks and weeks of searching, I finally found most of the products I wanted mostly in Tema and Ashaiman markets. I must say I'm really almost done!! Yep...just one or two more products left to stock.

So here are my products so far:

Staple Hair Products

I know, I know................Product Junkie?  But I need everything you see there........and I will definitely use most of these all up within 6 months. Less months for the conditioners, deep conditioners, moisturisers and oils.

I spent about 500gh (250usd) on these products..........but they are all very worth the penny.

I will give a detailed list of these products per category from tomorrow. Stay glued.

How much per year do you spend on your hair products?

Cheers,
Star.

Weekend Treat: Hot Oil Treatment

I have heard and read a lot about the benefits of hot oil treatments for hair but never got myself to really do one. I don't say, right? After much feet-dragging, I decided to finally give it a try...and I added a little twist to it.

1. I used mainly coconut oil, added a spoon of black castor oil and amla oil ....and infused it with black tea, chopped onion and ginger for about an hour.
2. I then put it in a saucepan which I placed in another pan with boiling water for about 10 minutes.

3. I applied the oil to my scalp with my applicator bottle and massaged for 10 minutes.

4. I applied oil to the length of my hair and made sure it soaked properly.

5. Covered with a plastic bag and sat under the dryer for 10 minutes.
6. Rinsed completely, soaked up excess water with a t-shirt and applied Organic Root Stimulator Replenishing Conditioner (New: Totally Awesome).
7. Covered with a shower cap, sat under dryer for 10 minutes and rinsed.
8. Wrapped hair in t-shirt for 10 minutes and left hair to airdry.

9. Applied leave-in, moisturiser, polisher and sealed with black castor oil.

RESULTS:
I loved how soft and silky my hair felt throughout this wash process. And the shine was amazing. It's a YES from me. Hot oil treatments are definitely going to be part of my regimen. Just have to come up with a way of incorporating it into my wash regimen. But seriously, do I have a regimen at all? Everything seems to have changed for me....new products, new practices, new recipes, new everything!! I just have to sit down; pen and paper in hand and work out a new regimen as the first one I had seems to have got the kick ages ago....lol!!

And I loooooooooooooove the volume I get when I airdry....hehehheheheehhe!!
Have you tried airdrying your hair without rollers? Results?
Cheers,
Star.
