Hairlovers....Star is Back!

Oh My gooooooosh!! I can't believe I've been this lazy!!

Or was I de-motivated or busy or basically lost for hair words and updates? I'm happy to be back in the space and I absolutely apologise for keeping ya'll waiting. I really missed blogging..was always on my mind but my schedule and life got so fast paced I barely had the energy to write. Been updating on my Youtube Channel though as often as I can though.

So what's been going on with my hair? Well, after the chop, I am not sure what I want with it now honestly. I'm really yearning to get a low cut at the end of the year, but I don't want it to be short as I don't know what styles I'll be able to wear till it grows long enough to style. But I do love my natural hair and having loads of natural hair products and Cantu sheabutter products, almost the whole range is surely a factor. My natural hair feels happier than my texlaxed hair when I use most of the products I have. I'm being biased smh now opting more for products made for natural hair.

Do I really want to go natural? Off the top of my head, my answer is no. But I do feel like growing it natural to see if I like it as much as I love all the natural hair ladies I follow. The thick updos always keep me going like wow! Maybe I am just afraid my hair won't be as thick as those I see online eventually. Oh it's a mix of everything between sure and confused...lmao.

I can't keep my hands out of my natural hair and though it is mostly coily, it is not as coarse as it used to be. I figure it gets better as it grows longer or something like that.

I usually do flat twists and this here is my first attempt at large braids. Not bad huh? And I got a new camera as a gift from Nelspruit Communications UK ,and I was so so happy. Yaaaaaaaaaay yaaaay yaaaaaaaa!! Time to get better pictures up in this space!

I will write more often...and thanks to you all for your support over the years.

STAR IS BACK!!

Cheers....muaaaaaaah!!

3 Year Hairniversary!!

Yaaaaay.....and I'm glad I started! After 3 years, I'm all smiley cos the whole journey has been worth it. I've not only grown longer and thicker hair, but I've made some awesome friends and started a business alongside. I dream of bigger and better things, all because of my hair journey.

I texlaxed a few days ago and as usual had a lot of texture left in ...a little more than I wanted but there will be another relaxer day in the future and hopefully, I can stretch it out more. My focus has changed and I am more keen on thickness than growth; though having both will be awesome. Hheheehehhehe....makes me smile too wide each time I dream of thick, long, fabulous texlaxed tresses.

It has been such an awesome hair journey. I've had my share of setbacks and challenges...I still have a lot of relaxed hair to get rid of as I began texlaxing last year and absolutely intend to be fully texlaxed by the end of my 4th year on my HHJ.

I've learnt more each day as my hair gets longer to keep it in low to no manipulation styles to reduce breakage. I've discovered amazing products such as T444Z Hair Food, Manetabolism Vitamins, Groganics range of products and Vitamins, Afroriri range of products, Vitale and ORS range of products that I love and still use whenever I have the opportunity, just to mention a few; that grow, strengthen and maintain my strands and keep them healthy looking.

The Wash Day Experience
To all ladies growing their hair along with me, Never Give Up!! And to you my awesome readers, each time I look at my pages views, I am so encouraged to keep going despite the frustrations because I have your support. Thanks you so much for your support and prayers, and well wishes......and let's keep growing together. Everything I do, I do for you!!

THANK YOU!

MERCI BEAUCOUP!!

GRACIAS!!!

When did you start your hair journey?

Healthy Hair Meet up: Love In The Church!

Hi lovelies,

The 14th of February, Valentines Day was a great one for me as I got the chance to hold a hair meetup within a christian program for at least 400 young people in Accra, Ghana. The program was dubbed, "Love in the Church" and I was a guest speaker at the event with my "Hair, Health and Beauty"message. Though my talk was within 20 minutes, the interest of the young people were very high and we had a lot of young people visiting our stand after my presentation to ask more questions and seek hair care advice. It was really awesome and a night well spent.

I had giveaways during the event as well...sponsored by ORS Ghana andAfroRiri Haircare. I can't thank them enough for their continuous support of the GHlonghair brand.

At least 50 people went away with products.

And my beautiful hair sisters, Ruby, Theresa and Rufina (not pictured below) were there to help out as always. Thank you ladies!

And I loved how my hair turned out.  I washed on Friday night but hair didn't feel right and I had to wash again on Saturday morning. Luckily, I had power so I did a rollerset and sat under the dryer till my hair was completely dry. I did a sort of flat twist with a side bang.

Was a great day and I look forward to being invited to more programs as such.

What hairstyle did you wear on Vals day?

Relaxer Day: At 9 Weeks Post

Hello hairdies,

9 weeks post relaxer

Once again, I gave up on stretching after 9 weeks. Do I consider it a fail? Not at all, because I always tell myself to do what makes me happy. And if at any point in time, even when it comes to my hair, anything about it makes me unhappy, I change it immediately. No second guessing.

I just couldn't handle all the new growth....or just simply wasn't prepared to. And my hair was breaking much more than I wanted while detangling. Know how I go gaga over just 1 strand breaking off. I was just not prepared to feel bad about my hair. The new growth I had was over 2 inches anyway which is more like results from  a 16-20 week stretch without growth aids so I just grabbed the last bit of relaxer that was left and just slapped it on the sections I had detangled for my weekend wash. I was all smiley after that. Believe me, like I had won a lottery.

Texlaxed roots

I used the same process I used here.  Only thing I did differently was to smoothe a little with a wide tooth comb. My new growth is denser nowadays and so coily...I figured I would still have texture even if I smoothed, and I was right. I used the same products but the relaxer I used was S&S relaxer made by Ghandour Cosmetices.

The thickness I have is amazing and I just love the look of the strands. I'm just at a point in my hairy life where everything I am using is just awesome!

I wrapped my hair up for the night and had very smooth results the next day. I used AfroRiri hair butter and scalp&hair conditioner to moisturise and seal my hair......and once again, I felt like a million dollars. Look at the shine and how well moisturised my ends are. By the end of the day, my hair still looks "brand new". The ends don't give me that "I'm mighty thirsty'' look.

Relaxer Results

That trim I wanted to get when I relax, I didn't think I needed it just yet so I skipped the trim. My right nape broke really badly last August and I see that it is filling in nicely. Will just have to wait till next relaxer day...and trim if I need it.

This is just a great way for me to start my year in 2015. I am filled with so much optimism that not even a setback will dull my shine....I am discovering more about myself on this journey, loving my hair more, loving myself more, loving my life more. Every bit of it.

Do you have any challenges with your hair that bother you?

Cheers,
Star.

Hair Goals and Plans for 2015.

Happy New Year everyone!

As always, it's exciting when the year ends and the expectations and plans for the new year are always a thrill to think of and make.

I had never been able to put down my plans for the year as far as my hair care routine is concerned but I realised at the latter part of 2014 that where I made a plan and carried it through, my hair turned out better.

I retained a lot of length despite my trims within the year. I had frustrations from transitioning to texlaxed; the shrinkage always gave me the "I'm stuck at the same length" feeling. Now, I have come to embrace it more as I understand it more.

So these are my goals and how I plan to achieve them:

1. I am aiming for Mid Back Length by December 2015. That is my ultimate goal and I plan to continue texlaxing.

2. I will trim my hair 3 times this year. I will trim off no more than 0.5 inches unless extremely necessary.

3. I will install long term protective styles no more than 4 times during the year and keep them in no less than 6 weeks. I will leave 4 weeks between re-installments.

4. I will wash weekly, deep condition weekly and moisturise & seal daily no matter what style I have my hair in. I will dilute my products and use a braid spray when I have braids or weaves.

5. I will massage my scalp and edges with T444Z hair food, JBCO and Groganics head full of hair every 2 days. I will rotate between these topical growth aids.

6. I will make a conscious effort to eat well and drink lots of water. I will take Manetabolism or Groganics vitamins to supplement my diet.

I hope to retain no less than 5 inches this year and hopefully I will reach my length goal with that. I am well stocked for 2015 as far as products are concerned and I will not buy any more products unless I really need them.

I really feel good about 2015 and I pray that God will give me the strength to continue this journey and help me have a setback-free year.

What is your hair length goal by December 2015?

Cheers,
Star.

Tales of my Waist Length Hairventure or Hairventure to Waist Length?

I had been thinking of changing my blog title for a long while because it is similar to another blog title I found a few months after I started my blog.

I've finally come up with two titles and hope you help me choose one.

1. Tales of my (Waist Length) Hairventure

or

2. Hairventure to Waist Length

Hairventure is Hair Adventure shortened, and it sounds cute like all the other words like hairmily, hairdie, hairven, etc that I use in chats with hair friends....and I would want my goal to appear in the title but option 1. sounds nicer without the waist length...lol

So as I make plans for 2015, I just decided to carry out one plan I hadn't achieved in 2014.

2015 is going to be a great year..in all things and I do have some nice plans I'm writing down which I would share with you soon. I'm so hairxcited!!

Which blog title do you like? 1 or 2?

Cheers,
Star.

A Beautiful Soul Gone: Titi Branch (Co-Founder of Miss Jessie's)

OMG!! She's too beautiful to be gone!

Another hair sister gone......just like that! This is Titi Branch; co-founder of Miss Jessie's Hair Products, a very successful natural hair care line who died at 45 on 4th December, 2014 and whose cause of death is rumoured to be suicide. Then again, you wonder why such a beautiful and successful woman would take her own precious life. You can read her life story here

Titi Branch

I'm just sad that sometimes, depression can get people to such a point of no return. Suicide. Throw away life and all it has to offer. Just like that. One is said to be depressed when one feels deeply dejected, unhappy, sad, dispirited, heavy-hearted, lonely, moody, and hopeless..................just to name a few. And when one doesn't seek medical attention, anything can happen. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!

My heart goes out to the family and friends, especially her sister and business partner Miko. May she keep the fire burning and if there were some dreams yet to be achieved, may she rise to the occasion.

We all have sad and lonely times. Times when our spirits are down. We may have encountered hopeless situations and think there is no light at the end of the tunnel. It may be at work, school, home, neighbourhood, even church..... but what we have to keep doing is rise up and move on. Let go of the hurt. Let go of the pain. Let go of the sadness. Talk to someone. Make new friends. Find ways to make yourself happy. And best of all, TALK TO JESUS!!

I posted this photo to my facebook profile today because I have made a personal decision that nothing is gonna keep me down for more than a day. Oh no no no no! Whatever happens, I have decided not to brood. I'll just take it as one of those things and shake it off in the morning with that happy jump right there.

Life is beautiful! It is sweet and sour, life is tough but it goes on.

R.I.P Titi! May you find eternal rest.

Hair Musings

Hello everyone. It's been a long while. What has been up with my hair is pretty much nothing. That's primarily because it stopped itching!

Now, I hardly have my hands in my hair at all. I still use the Dark and Lovely Anti Itch and S.O.S hairline everyday. It is so easy and convenient to use. My hair is not smelly; according to my sister and the weave still looks good. I washed only that once I wrote about in my last post and I'm surprised after more than a week, it is not itchy. I could hardly go a week without washing my scalp in the past. I will do a full review of the products once the bottles are empty...that wont be long as more than half the bottle of the anti-itch is gone already.....hehehhehehhe.

Is my hair growing? Yes it is as I feel new growth. I still apply T444Z Hair Food once a week. It is hard to have access to the front parts of my hair as the weave is across the cornrows but I still do my best to get a little where I can. It is easy to apply and massage in the back area of my head. I'm not happy I didn't complete inversion this month and will do it as soon as I get these weaves out. I'm not sure now when I will take these out because it's just sweet to rest a bit from all the washing and deep conditioning and airdrying and styling and everything else. I miss my hair routine but I just got so busy with school .....I'm in class almost every evening now. I just hope this anti-itch is moisturising enough and my hair wont dry out. I really should find time to wash and condition soon.

Anything new? YES!

There is an ongoing edges and hairline challenge on my on my facebook page and the rule is to use either coconut oil or castor oil on your edges 3 times a week. Only one of the oils. The challenge started this Sunday and will end in December. I will use castor oil. If you have issues with your edges, you can join in the challenge. Both oils are growth aids. Just take starting photos and post to my facebook page wall or whatsapp to +233201979795. Let's regrow our edges!

How is your hair doing?

Cheers,
Star.

Registration time,  and first 50 ladies got these goodies from ORS Ghana.
By 12:30pm there were about 15 ladies at the venue already and by 1:00pm, we were about 30. We started right on time and within an hour, the seats were all taken. We had 60 seats initially but as time went on, we had to add a few. We registered a total of 81 ladies. And there were more than 15 gentlemen who showed up to support us.

We had 3 talks on Tips for Growing Long Hair by GHlonghair, Beauty Inside Out: You are What You Eat by Esther, a Dietician from the Korle-Bu Teaching , and Home Recipe Making by Benedicta. There was a session for Mira, a relaxed hair blogger and Nana Ama, naturalista to share their hair stories and how their hair journeys have been.

Then we had a runway session where we met ladies at various stages of their hair journeys, we heard their hair stories and shared their regimen and products that they loved. We had demonstrations of hair care techniques such as prepooing, stretching relaxers, deep conditioning, wrapping hair, green house effect, inversion, and many more.

The workshops were just amazing. We divided the ladies into groups and had facilitators for each group. The discussions went on and on and on.....there was just so much to learn and share. With time running out, we had to end the workshops though the ladies wanted more.

Sunshine Blogger Award II

Hello everyone!! It's a beautiful day. I feel so blessed!!

Yes!! I got another sunshine blogger award which is a way for bloggers to know other bloggers better, and  for blog fans and readers to know their bloggers as well. Uzuoma of www.donttouchthehair.com , thanks so much for the award. I love your blog too and loved your responses to the questions you got. I did a response to Ghanaianemprezz's questions yesterday and you can click here for the list of the bloggers I nominated.

My answers to Uzuoma's questions:

1. What is your favourite dessert? Fruit salads. I don't eat it often but I really love it besides cakes with icing. (watching my weight smh)

3. Why did you decide to start blogging? I wanted to track my hair journey progress and also help other ladies who wanted to grow their hair by sharing the knowledge and experience I had gained.
4. What is one tip that you would give to new bloggers? Do whatever makes you happy; and when you get criticized, use it as an opportunity to better yourself at what you do. See it all as constructive.

My hair would have been butt-length by now....lol! It's the only time in my life I really, really, really, really, would like to wind back to.
10. What is your favourite season? Rainy Season. I'm not fond of the cold but the heat gets unbearable during harmattan.
11. What are your top 3 hair products? T444Z Hair Food, Hawaiian Silky 14-in-1 Miracle worker, Creme of Nature Argan Oil Strength and Shine leave in conditioner. I love these so much and I pray each day my hair continues to love them.

This Joyful Easter-tide!!

Christ in you, your hope of Glory!!

I believe in the Ressurrection and the Life. There is nothing too difficult for our Mighty God! Why worry and carry heavy burdens, my friend? Life is tough, indeed...but Christ gives us the opportunity each day to cast our burdens onto Him. That is the Reason for this Season. Lay all your crosses before the Cross because Christ could not have died in vain. He died that you and I may have life and live it to the full!!

Oh, arise my soul and praise the Lord. Choose to live in love, faith and hope, for that will give you great joy and happiness beyond human understanding. This world is but a journey! May every dead situation in our lives rise again to the glory of God and may our souls strive for the Kingdom of Heaven where there is Eternal Love, Joy and Happiness!! That is where our lives will really begin. Let us keep our eyes fixed on the Cross that we might in the end receive our Crowns of Glory!!

I believe in the Risen Lord Jesus and claim all His promises!! Type AMEN if you believe, and don't forget to spread the Good News by sharing this post with all your friends and family.

Happy Easter!!

How To Start Your Healthy Hair Journey.

It's been an awesome year; looking back, and I am really, really happy about where I am right now. I love my hair much much more than ever before. When I started my hair journey, I didn't really "believe" I could achieve so much within 1 year. Now see, in just 12 months!! Thank You God!!

Though I trimmed off some of my ends for a nice, U-shaped look, I should be back to this length by now as I have had some more growth since my last relaxer. Been almost 2 months since my last trim.

Now, what stops you from beginning your own healthy hair journey? Honestly, mine was for fun; that was how I started. But now I see that really, I could get any length of hair I wish to have so I intend to take my journey more seriously.

1st January, 2014 will mark a new beginning for me and my hair. It's going to be a Hair Growth Boot Camp for me. I know you want to join me so here are a few tips to help you start your hair journey.

1. Research: Believe me if I say I spent months researching about relaxed black hair growth. Just seeing tons and tons of black women with loooooooooooooong hair got me longing more and more for looooooooooong hair too!! I read thousands of blogs....watched thousands of videos......read thousands of articles!! About just anything; from how to comb hair to how to cut hair; how to wash hair to how to dry hair.....even how to tie and sleep with a satin scarf. Do a lot of research...it will make your journey easier and you will be more prepared. There is so much information out there...the hard part is taking out what is useful to you and your hair needs.

2. Take Photos: The moment you decide to embark on your hair journey, take photos. Take photos of  the back, side and front your hair. Take photos of hair wet and dry. And take more pictures as you go along...every week. This will help you to see if you are making any progress as the months go by. Progress may seem slow at first but as you master how to care for your hair, it will show more quickly in health, thickness and length. And once you begin to see the changes for yourself, you will journey on more happily.

3. Set Goals: Like any other goals you set for yourself in life, you must set a hair goal. Long term goals and short term goals. I find that setting short term goals is important in order not to stress yourself too much. However, set an ultimate goal for your hair especially if your aim is to grow it not only healthier and thicker, but longer as well. Do well to keep in mind that hair grows at a rate...depending on each individual so first check how much your hair grows each month and then use that information to set your goals. Hair takes time to grow, so just be patient and work hard at retaining the health and length of your hair.

4. Get Hair Products and Tools: Yes, you need to get your own poducts and tools that will suit the needs of your hair. Remember, hairdressers don't get products to suit every client's hair. They get products that will work in general for whatever purpose they have been made to serve. It may work perfectly for someone's hair but it may not work well for your hair. I've seen people with long hair irrespective of whether they use the worst concentrated sulfate, alcohol or petrolatum products. Lucky them!! But for some of us, those products kill our hair in record time. It is your hair. Make a little investment  in products and tools. Start with the less expensive but good stuff. Build a hair care routine and be consistent with the use of products for at least 3 months before writing them off.

5. Do It Yourself (D.I.Y): Sounds funny but this is one of the things I didn’t take into consideration at the start of my journey that I hold onto like the Gospel now. I achieved much more length-wise and health-wise at the times I did my hair myself than when I let others do it. My hair loves my hands. Your hair will love your hands. No one can love your hair like you do so just do it all yourself. Yes, some neighbours may say in the beginning that you are broke (yep, somehow you hear the gossip) but those same neighbours will ask you what your "secret" is...lol!! My biggest secret is: "I do my hair myself"!!
